Vision

Maine Renewable Energy Consortium (MREC) is a Maine based company focused on enhanced value energy products that maximize the potential of Maine bio-mass while protecting the environment and creating “Green Tech” employment opportunities for generations to come.

Mission

Maine Renewable Energy is working to advance our goals with a three phased development plan. The first phase is the development of an Energy Eco-Park model centered around a Combined Heat & Power (CHP) facility. This facility will utilize 100% low grade forestry residue in an advanced combustion process to create electricity and provide low cost thermal energy which is double the efficiency when compared to present day merchant or utility bio-mass systems.  Phase two will enhance the use of bio-mass by development of an extraction process to the CHP facility. Maine Renewable will implement a pre-treatment process on the forestry bio-mass destined to the CHP facility. This process will extract the low heat value component of wood fiber, hemi-cellulose, prior to the remainder being sent to combustion. Removal of the hemi-cellulose provides a higher efficiency fuel to the combustion process while simultaneously separating this ideal feed stock component for use in a bio-fuel or bio-chemical enhancement process. Extraction of additional value added components is also being evaluated.  The final phase of the Maine Renewable Energy objectives will be the deployment of the validated Energy Eco-Park model around the state and across the region. Site specific factors will be analyzed to optimize deployment of the Energy Eco-Park model by incorporating operational, and strategic logistics so that each new facility maximizes the local resources.
